Gardens

The O&V is proud to be able to share with you the joys (and tribulations) of growing your own food. The very beginnings are happening right in our back yard where we are transforming a small tract of land into what we hope will become an integral part of our kitchen.

We are installing three keyhole gardens and you can watch our progress on our website and in person. Please feel free to visit any time.

At the moment we have prepared the land and started by putting the central garden-feeding holes in place. Our next job is to collect the stones (recently unearthed on a nearby farm during roadworks) and start laying out the boundaries of each garden.

And in the meantime, Richard (we would hesitate to refer to him as the gardener as although he is tending to our gardens, he is also doing everything from painting to heavy lifting and fence building to oven cleaning) is starting to grow the seedlings that will be planted into our gardens when they are ready.

We hope that by the summer the lettuce you eat here, the herbs that adorn your food and many of the other items on our menu will have the fewest food miles that are humanly possible.
